To get a place next to Google Maps, Apple is trying to revive its plans tool.
Apple announces that it has acquired two start-ups, and HopStop Locationary specialized in routes and geolocation of shops, to improve its mapping application maps. Although redesigned for iOS 7 (expected in the fall, at the launch of the next iPhone), plans are nonetheless a failure for Apple. To rectify the situation and offer the most complete application possible, the company acquired two new technologies.
HopStop is specialized in the route (on foot, bicycle, taxi or public transport) and offers the App Store an application currently covering more than 600 cities around the world. It is therefore likely that this technology will soon be integrated to propose a plan similar to that offered by Google Maps such service.
For its part, Locationary is a startup working on geolocation of points of interest, including the aggregation of information (addresses, schedules, etc..) For thousands of local businesses. Again, Google Maps already has an edge with its tools recommendations nearby.
The rival Google Maps
Apple has a lot to do in the field of cartography, particularly against its archrival Google, the latest version of Maps, now broken down into applications on iOS and Android, is impressive. It is enriched with traffic aids and new recommendations.
This update will include access to an entire address book to find places to eat, drink, sleep or go shopping. Navigation has meanwhile been optimized, with reports on traffic problems, but also alerts if a better route is available. In fact, Maps is positioned more as an alternative to GPS and other warning of "danger zones."
The application also full of recommendations, through services like Zagat or Google Offers, integrated with search results. If Zagat to discover the interests (rated) close, Google Offers has the potential to benefit from the latest deals, easily located.
