A research group from the University of Illinois announced a new battery based on lithium-ion batteries can be recharged a thousand times faster than current batteries of the same type. Under the direction of Professor William P. King, research has led to the manufacture of a micro three-dimensional structure for the cathode and the anode of the battery.
With such a structure for both essential to the exchange of electrons within the battery cells, the research team believes that their batteries can be 30 times thinner but also offer 30 times more energy. Mostly we think of smartphones and tablets that with such a device can then receive additional gain autonomy. The first results are very promising and the research group already actively working with key industry sector to start manufacturing these batteries of the future.
