Microsoft U.S. computer group is currently developing a new smaller version of the tablet surface, launched last year, wrote on Thursday the Wall Street Journal, citing sources familiar with the matter.Mass production is expected to begin this year for this new space-the current version measuring 10.6 inches (26.9 cm) diagonal, more than the classic Apple iPad (9.7 inches, or 24 6 cm).
The new version of the surface would show a diagonal of 7 inches (18 centimeters), as the smallest of the Amazon Kindle and the Google Nexus 7 Fire, and a little less than the Apple iPad mini (7.9 inches, 20.1 inches).
Nobody was immediately available from Microsoft for comment.
Microsoft had its late October market entry of tablets with the Surface, also believed to be a showcase for Windows 8, the new version of its popular operating system.

The area is currently one of the largest tablets on the market, but also one of the most expensive.
The group has not given official estimates of sales, but many analysts believe that the device has limited success.
The tablet market is all the more important for Microsoft that these devices cannibalize its traditional market, the PC in the doldrums. Research firms IDC and Gartner have reported Wednesday a collapse of PC sales in the first quarter amounted to respectively -13.9% and -11.2%.
