Apple
offers on its website a list of widgets available for Mac OS. The page is not
very recent, it was commissioned a few years ago now. Widgets for Mac, appeared
in 2005, fit within the Dashboard, it is "small" applications with
one (or more) functionality to the program. Several are included by default
with a post-it, the world clock or weather. But it seems that Apple has soon
get rid of. Trying to download something, the user is redirected to apple.com /downloads, no matter the selected widget. It is true they have done their time,
Apple has also stopped the submission in 2011 for developers. Over the updated
OS X Dashboard widgets and extension were less exploited which suggests a next
stop in OS X 10.9, which will be unveiled on June 10.
If we stick
to the Apple forums, the service is in the cabbage for a few weeks already. It
was only noticed today though. It is therefore difficult to determine if it is
a simple "problem" or a deliberate action on the part of the
Cupertino company. As mentioned previously, they are no longer young. Therefore
see in the future how they will evolve or simply be removed.
